What is EduWaterLab?
EduWaterLab is a new innovative way of teaching students at universities in the domain of hydrology and hydraulics. The project seeks to engage and reconnect students with issues in the domain of water management and engineering (hydrology and hydraulics, groundwater and water quality) using experiment approaches mainly focused on understanding physical, chemical and environmental processes than tool-oriented learning methods.
Using innovative learning techniques like shared lab experiments, online sessions and platform activities (videos, classes, exercises and tutorials), the project aims to achieve better understanding of the basic concepts that involve different processes in the domain of water. Under the premise of “back to basic” principle, and using innovative teaching strategies, the project is proposed as a new way of teaching under a world in constant change and different challenges.
The initiative will allow the partner institutions to share their lab for teaching purposes, extending the teaching capacity of a specific partner with no capacity to run certain experiments. This will stimulate innovative learning and teaching practice for lecturer and students by extending the local limited lab resources by the shared experiments and related shared teaching units.
The program, coordinated by UPC, will be carried out through the partnership of four European universities. The consortium is composed of:
- Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC)
- Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU)
- Politecnhika Warszawska (WUT)
- Università della Calabria (UNICAL)
The program aims to expand these innovative educational strategies beyond the four-partner consortium. To achieve this, it involves collaboration with external partners who will assist in evaluating the materials produced during the project’s development, both from the perspective of teachers and students. Key external partners include:
- Université Côte d’Azur, Nice, France
- University of Newcastle, Newcastle, UK
- Escuela Universitaria Politécnica de la Almunia, Zaragoza, Spain
- Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium
- University of Campania, Italy
- Universidad Nacional del Litoral, Santa Fe, Argentina
- Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil
- Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil
- Universidad Santo Tomás, Tunja, Colombia
- Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Monterrey, México
- Incheon National University, Korea
